The Magnolia League was overall fairly good. I never really liked any of the characters throughout the whole book. That was my main problem with it. Alex wasn't a very like able girl because her flaws were huge and I didn't feel like if I were in the same position as her, I would have made the same choices. The story was fairly good as well. It had some interesting plot twists, but I would have rather it ended as a single novel than for Crouch to try and set up a sequel off of it. I didn't get very far in this book. I really enjoy cheesy girly novels with stereotypical characters who are focused on makeup and fashion. I really do, actually. But they're sort of like fine wine, haha, to truly enjoy them you must be a connoisseur. And well, I like to think that I am. Haha. If a book like this is really written well, it will be so fun and sparkly that you almost forget how corny it is, or you just revel in the corny and love it for what it is. My point is, this book fell flat. I felt like it was a little off, and so I read some of the reviews on here and discovered that the author feels you don't have to actually try to write YA lit because teenagers don't really know what good literature is anyway. Sigh. So instead of being a book that knows it's corny and RUNS WITH IT, I got a book that is corny because the author didn't give a damn. And that is a book I refuse to waste any more of my time on. Sorry.
