Descent Into Chaos: The US & The Disaster In Pakistan, Afghanistan & Central Asia (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
Great read. For anyone interested in knowing the events during the time lapse of 1999 to 2008, that concern foreign and internal socio-political issues of Pakistan and Afghanistan MUST read this. The author does talk about Central Asia (especially Uzbekistan), but not to a great extent. The book does make a good analysis on the War on Terror, but the topic does NOT make any emphasis on the Iraq war or any other conflict, other than the contemporary South/Central Asia. The book goes into the background of some individuals to a very specific extent, such as Hamid Karzai, Gen. Pervez Musharaf, Donald Rumsfeld, and Islam karimov. Some other issues the author talks about is USA's role in the conflict, and their failure of nation building, and UN's role as a failed peacekeeper. A great book. I have read 'Taliban' the author's previously published book and found it fascinating. I am halfway through this book and can't put it down. The author pulls no punches when defining the mistakes the US made in Afghanistan, and that is good. Maybe if more decision makers read this, we could create a better policy in Central- Southern Asia. One can only hope so. A great companion book to Ghost Wars.
