This novella set in the Night Huntress world is another good addition to the series. It may be only about 100pgs long but it felt very well thought out and very complete. I personally thought that the characters were well developed in the short time span given and I really felt their emotions and actions were portrayed in a very authentic way.Having been possessed by a demon that causes him to black out only to wake to find himself surrounded by dead bodies, Blake is seeking a way out in order to protect his family and everyone else from this horrible part of him. He has accepted the fact that his death is the only way to save everyone else and has made peace with it. You can just feel his despair over the terrible things the demon has made him do and his actions and decisions to help stop it I thought were be very honorable. I liked how Elise, who was previously a loner vampire due to a tragic past, saw through what the demon turned him into and saw the quality of character that Blake possessed and she was drawn to his selflessness. Seeing what he was willing to do for the greater good made her realize she hadn’t really been living for the past 50 years and vows to help him see it through. Of course with the inevitable death hanging over their heads it causes their feelings towards one another to accelerate and it’s really sweet how they comfort one another, both needing the support of the other. I loved how when Elise was presented with an “out” of the situation she still respected Blake’s wishes, it would have been an easy cop out to take that deal but they stayed true to their characters and well you’ll see what happens!I liked the addition of Mencheres in this story and how there was reference to a few things that happened in the previous book, we also get a visit from Cat and Bones which is always welcome. I loved how the story turned out but would have loved a slightly longer epilogue! All in all a very enjoyable quick read that packs quite a bit of emotion! Oh this book made me cry so much. It was so emotional. This is a novella from the night huntress books. It features, like a guest star, Bones and Cat. Mencheres get a bigger role. In this we meet Blake Turner who is possessed by a demon and is trying to kill himself in order for the demon to die as its making him do bad things, real bad things. We also meet Elise a reclusive vampire, one who keeps to herself, that is until Blake and Elise's path cross. I read this with tears in my eyes for most of it. Blake was so strong, brave and determined to save innocent people, he wasn't trying to find a way to remove the demon. He didn't want anyone else to suffer like he was or for anyone else to be killed. He was an honourable man. When Elise met him, he was trying to throw himself under a train. Elise saved Blake and she wanted to get the demon out of him. After meeting with Mencheres who tried to remove the demon, but was unsuccessful. Elise was heartbroken and struggled to come to terms with it. Yet Blake had accepted his fate as long as the demon died with him. I love the night huntress books. And i hope Elise and Blake are in a future book.

This novella is a sweet, pleasant dessert story--enjoyable but empty calories. Cameos by Bones, Cat and Mencheres are tie this story loosely to the Night Huntress world, but Blake and Elise make their only appearance here. They are endearing characters but who cares when they are not part of the main story, which is full of characters I am already invested in. Courageous, kind possessed man meets shy, loner vampire. Dilemma and love ensue with sprinkle of pathos. Two bites and it's gone.
