I'm a lifelong fan of mysteries and seem to take long breaks from them indulging in Lit. Fiction and Historical Fiction. I am not a reader of the "cozy" and was curious about this subgenre. Due to the ubiquitous nature of these dessert titled mysteries I decided to try one. I didn't hate it. It was mildly entertaining. It was an adult version of Nancy Drew, with the amateur sleuth, a little romance and lots about personal relationships in a small town. I think the demographics is anyone YA to GA (geriatric adult) that wants something light and entertaining. I don't think I would read another one as my taste go to something a litte edgier and more hard-boiled. I just love this book series. This time Hannah has to figure out who killed Reverend Matthew Walters or is he dead? He's a childhood friend of Reverend Bob, who came to town to take over the services, so Bob and his wife Claire could go on their long-awaited honeymoon. There's also a new dentist in town, Dr. Beverly, an old girlfriend from Norman's past and Hannah's jealous. Is Hannah's lovelife in trouble or is Dr. Beverly trouble? Dr. Beverly not only seeing Norman again but Mike too. What's up with those too dating the same girls? As usual, the ends and outs at the Cookie Jar are amusing ,the recipes are delicious and the end had a great cliff-hanger.
Poor grammar. Boringly predictable plot. Unbelievable and annoying characters. Tedious detail with no imagination. Unnatural, repetitive dialogue. An unfinished ending in order to get you to read the next book in the series, which I will never do. Poor writing and story construction. Since this is on NY Times Bestseller list I'm really concerned about my fellow American readers. The book is a bust, but there are some good recipes.

Okay, I have loved all of these books so far. They are fun and quirky and filled with recipes. But, I am getting a little tired of the whole Mike and Norman thing. And, also, Hannah's indecisiveness. Someone needs to make a choice here, as it is making me question whether or not I want to continue with the next one. In saying that, I enjoy the characters, I just hope they will make some choices soon
