Die Bekenntnisse Der Sullivan-Schwestern (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
The matriarch of the Sullivan family, known as Almighty, announces that she has been wronged by one of her six grandchildren and threatens to cut the entire family out of their inheritance. If she doesn’t get a confession from the appropriate person, then she will donate all her money to charity. Told in three letters to Almighty by the three teenage Sullivan sisters, 17-year-old Norrie, 16-year-old Jane, and 15-year-old Sassy, each confesses in order to save the family’s money and to air their wrong-doings. Each of the letters provides a thoughtful and funny glimpse into the lives of the wealthy, socially-connected sisters. DNF after the first section, starring Norrie. It was so bland that I could taste the stagnation. I LOVE How to Say Goodbye in Robot, another of Standiford's novels. I thought I'd love this one, too. Maybe it's because I can't relate to being rich. Maybe it's because within the first three pages we know what the rest of the book is going to say, and we just have to guess at who's in the most trouble with Almighty. Maybe it's because Norrie's a dumbass for making a huge scene of running away from home instead of doing it quietly. Whatever the reason, I couldn't stand the /blah/ writing and the generally uninteresting subject matter.
