Die Vertauschte Braut: Historischer Liebesroman (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

This book has been languishing on my Kindle in the TBR pile for almost 3 years. Now that I've read it, I'm admonishing myself for not reading it sooner, what a fun book!Ginesse is smart, independent, adventurous and kind of accident prone. I loved her. She and Jim had great chemistry. I enjoyed the Egyptian backdrop, quite different than most of the historical romances I've read. The supporting characters were great as well, I especially enjoyed Pomfrey the pompous (mostly laughing at him). The book moved along quickly and I was swept up in the adventure, I'm glad I finally read this one! The Other Guy's Bride rates only two stars from me. Set in Egypt in 1905, Ginesse Braxton is an impetuous young woman who wants to make her name as an Egyptologist, following in the footsteps of her illustrious parents, grandparents and great-grandfather. During her research at Cambridge, she comes across the possibility of a yet undiscovered ancient city called Zerzura, located in the far reaches of the Saharan desert. An opportunity arises where she can impersonate another woman who is traveling to a British outpost to join her fiancé, Colonel Lord Pomfrey, that will get her closer to her discovery. Meanwhile, Pomfrey has sent a small troop of men to meet his future bride and escort her to Fort Gordon; the troop is lead by a mysterious soldier/adventurer called Jim Owens. Their journey from Cairo to Fort Gordon takes Ginesse (impersonating Mildred) on a wild ride across the desert and to love - Jim and Ginesse (Mildred) cannot resist each other. The adventure has the makings of a terrific story, but it falls flat some of the time - although the love story between Jim and Ginesse is fairly believable and a lot of fun.

Not a bad fluffy book. It was mostly an adventure novel with a bit of a romance thrown in.
