Every Labour Day Weekend for the last five or six years, we've gone camping. It's become a tradition of mine to see how many books I can read over three or four days. I've packed seven books, and in light of the movie being released, the first book I read was Divergent.Maybe I'm a little bit biased because I love Shailene Woodley (casted as Tris Prior) and Ansel Elgort (casted as her brother, Caleb) and am unbelievably excited for TFIOS, but this book was really super great. All I want to do is ramble spoilers and parts I absolutely loved, but I'll try not to. Hopefully this review is coherent, or close enough.I've seen the trailer a number of times now, and that's really what pushed me to read the book. I had absolutely no idea what was going on. I thought this book would be a drag, I really did. I love that I was wrong.I love Virginia Roth's writing, and it don't think I can pick whether I reminded me of someone else's writing or not. The book is action packed, and while that is an attractive feature to me, I love reading into character's emotions, and this book is full of them. My two favourites are Tris, who has to hide her full identity entire to avoid certain death, and Four, disguising his feelings for Tris as training techniques. Super well written, can't wait to see how it's portrayed in the movie.Am yet to read the second and third books, looking forward to seeing how the story continues and eventually wraps up.Overall review, I guess I'd give it an 8? Not enough to end up on my favourites shelf (again), but it's a good book. Would recommend to those who are fans of The Hunger Games, and potentially The Mortal Instruments too (the books, not the movie- slaughtered that one). Would love to hear reactions too! Horrible. Le doy una estrella porque al menos no fue ofensivo, sino sólo MUY estúpido.Esto no es sorpresa para nadie: la distopia no tiene el menor sentido. Parece la manera en que un niño o cualquiera muy inmaduro CREE que será la mejor manera de llevar adelante al mundo, pero porque es un niño e inmaduro no se da cuenta de que un sistema así jamás podría funcionar.Todos los personajes los odié o sentí absoluta indiferencia hacia ellos. Will (¿así se llamaba el chico? no recuerdo ahora), uno de los amigos de Tris, es un imbécil que aparentemente no puede hablar con la gente sin insultarla de alguna manera. Cristina es un cero a la izquierda. No sé nada de su personaje, excepto que ella era demasiado buena amiga para Tris, quien nunca le correspondió en nada. Tris es una odiosa, hipócrita y jodida idiota. La autora aparenemente define a la mujer fuerte como esta persona que va por ahí buscando peleas contraproducentes, anda lanzando amenazas gratuitamente y hace estupideces "para probar su valor." Oh, la definición del valor es horrible, no tengo que decirlo. En esos momentos en los que se supone que la chica debía ser esta heroína patea-culos sólo sentí VERGÜENZA ajena.Pero al que más odié fue a Cuatro. Todavía más hipócrita, ridículo, absurdo, molesto Cuatro de tercera categoría. Tris se orgasmea contando qué tan noble, valiente y correcto es el sujeto pero este, en realidad, no hace nada extraordinario. No hace nada que le merezca tales adjetivos. Y lo que hace, al final, es estúpido. [sporiler]Dejar a una persona que está colgando de una rueda de la fortuna para pretender encender dicha rueda de la fortuna, la cual se encuentra en un parque de diversiones claramente abandonado y que, en un mundo con sentido, por supuesto que no va a tener corriente eléctrica. Pero como es el universo de Roth, donde a quién le importa el sentido común, nos vemos cool, ¿nos nos vemos cool?, ¡TE DIGO QUE NOS VEMOS COOL!, claro que todo sale bien. No me importa, sigue siendo una estupidez.[/spoiler]Los Buenitos (que tienen otro nombre, pero todos saben así deberían llamarse) son una tanda de prejuiciosos santurrones. O sea, ni un maldito espejo puedo ver y dios prohíba que muestre los tobillos o podría morir de vanidad pura. Los desprecié tanto, tanto. Las Facciones, todas, son un montón de sectas. Más tarde la mamaíta de Tris pretende justificarlo diciendo que la gente necesita una guía y que por eso el sistema funciona... pero no, lo dice como si la gente de verdad necesitara esas ridículas normas y les hiciera un bien imprescindible tenerlas. Tris, como buena protagonista de pacotilla, tiene la cabecita tan lavada como el resto y nunca piensa que el sistema en sí está mal. No, sólo Slytherin, qué digo, los Sabios son los malos que quieren arruinar lo que de por sí está perfecto. Porque son malos. Y Roth no tiene ningún problema en recordártelo mil veces por si alguna vez se te olvida. Nadie aquí piensa que estar sin Facción es todavía mejor que seguir esta mentalidad de secta con sus ridículas y absurdas reglas que ni siquiera tienen sentido. ¡Ni siquiera los "héroes" creen esto! Ergo, todos son idiotas.¿El romance? ¿Qué romance? Estos dos tienen menos 20 de química. No me creí ni por un segundo que Tris no tuviera algo más que un flechazo y Cuatro sólo quisiera ligar con ella. La única cosa que me gustó de todo esto fue Eric. No tengo la menor duda de que Roth se inspiró en Snape para hacerlo. Lean su descripción y traten de decirme que no suena a una versión joven del querido profesor. Eric todavía hacía cosas estúpidas, pero no le lamía las axilas a Tris y la vibra slash que percibía entre él y Cuatro fue lo bastante interesante para mantenerme leyendo.De resto, este es un libro completamente prescindible. Todas las cosas que deberían preguntarse nadie se las pregunta y las cosas que no deberían ser aceptables son las que te graban en el cerebro. Roth tiene una visión del mundo y de las cosas que francamente me perturba de a momentos.

Really enjoyed this. Probably a 4.5 for me. Not perfect but left me wanting more.
