Don't Look Behind You And Other True Cases (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

ABSOLUTELY LOVE ANN RULE BOOKS!!!! She is definitely, hands down the BEST CHOICE EVER to read when it comes to True Crime novels....who else would KNOW BEST first hand but an officer of the law how CRAZY people can be!!!! She has got to have a spine of steel to have dealt with all the crazies & then turn around and go back to write about them!!! I'm sure it will be another knockout group of stories from her!!!!Ok...so this time I obviously got the "lemon" of one of her books...which for me is rare & unusual. Bless this woman for having to configure all the characters...I've had to read every page almost twice & then back track again...The first story is just too confusing with all the characters & was disappointed that I had to go all the way to the back of the book, to find the pictures that go with the first story. This will not, however, stop me from buying more of Ann Rule's books...for me she is still the ONE BEST True Crime author, ever!!! The book title sends a strong message. Don't look behind you, look to your side and be aware of what you are doing. Sadly, that is the world we live in. Ann Rule writes about in four account in this book. The first stuck with me because I am familiar with the Tacoma, Washington area. Actually in the area at the time that I read her book. The Case of the Deadly Giant, which is one of the shorter stories was more interesting to me. It was very unusual and I think the murderer's height had a lot to do with that. Also the sense of safety and trust. The victim and her husband were accustomed to stopping at a pub without any real concerns. The victim's husband may be hard on himself for what happened, but really should not be at all. We develop a sense of trust as a routine becomes familiar and that is the part that stuck with me. The last story, The Most Frightening Crime of All, was the one I enjoyed the most. Ann Rule is right on the mark with this one. Wilson's rape victims did escape with their lives and he is behind bars, but as she compares him and the countless others she has written about to Ted Bundy, her comments are striking. Just simple decisions on the part of the victims are red flashing signals to pounce on them as prey, which is very sad.
