Double Minds (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

I enjoyed this book as much for the music environment it takes place in as the mystery and struggles of the story. I really enjoyed the song writer sharing her thought process of how she creates and allows the Lord to guide her as she is an instrument in his hand to spread his message. It is her struggle of how important this message is and if she is willing to compromise with the world’s standards in order to gain more fame. This message is accomplished without being corny, unreal, or preachy. It is a suspense driven story that interweaves faith with real life issues such as betrayal, theft, addiction, divorce and eating disorders. It demonstrates that a Christ centered life is not trouble free or perfect but that faith allows them to deal with their struggles. I appreciate the close, loving family atmosphere that is such a blessing for our protagonist.I really like one review that compared Double Minds to our struggle through life with one foot on the right path and one on the left. We can be double minded when confronted with choices and must choose which path we will ultimately take. As with other Terri Blackstock books I've read, I found myself often planning to read to the end of a chapter but having to continue with the next chapter to find out what happens next, caring for the wellbeing of the protagonist, and blessed by the author's ability to weave a Christian message into the story without sounding preachy or corny. The murder mystery aspect of this book was good, but I particularly liked the resolution of the part of the story that dealt with the hopes and dreams of the main character. It was a moving and satisfying resolution.
