Dziwna I Piękna Opowieść O Percy Parker (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
For a first book...not bad. I believe this author's skills will continue to grow with future work. I found this book "ok" not because of poor writing, plot, or character development but because as a mature (yes, older) reader I have moved on. As a younger person I devoured books of this genre; my tastes have changed. Do I regret reading it- NO and am glad my daughter chose to share the book with me. This was an elegant mix of genres. The time period is Victorian and it begins as a ghost story and ends as a lesson in mythology. It was an interesting tale with lots of twists and turns. Alexi and his friends are called to serve as protectors for the living world. They fight against dark things that come to cause mischief in the living world. For twenty years they have been fighting the dark, always on the look for the Prophecy, someone that will come to shift the balance to their side. Percy has always been fragile. She's an orphan and ends up going to school where Alexi is teaching. There is an instant connection, almost something beyond them. Alexi srarts to believe that she might be the Prophecy but his team isn't sure. It was hard for me to rate this one. Sometimes I liked it and sometimes I didn't. The part I hated the most was how fragile Percy was. She was a little too simpering for me to like her very much. Alexi was a little too dramatic in how he wanted to protect her. Some of the other characters were more interesting, but they weren't the main characters. I think I would've enjoyed their love stories more. I don't plan on reading any more in the story. It wasn't intriguing enough and I'm not sure I could stand much more of weak little Percy and domineering Alexi.

Great read...mysterious and Gothic. Full of myth and legend and mystery. Very entertaining!
