قلم دانيال ستيل رومانسي حالم ومثالي، تتشابه مع الأفلام الهندية والمصرية القديمة، أكاد أجزم بإني حفظت أسلوبها الذي لم يتغير، قصة حب أسطورية مثالية، مع نهاية سعيدة، إيجابيتها الوحيدة هو أنني لا أستطيع ترك الرواية، هناك شيئ ما يشدني حتى النهاية.في رواية أماديا التي تدور أحداثها في زمن الحربين العالميتين الأولى والثانية، في البداية تتحدث عن قصة الحب بين بيتا اليهودية الألمانية وانطوان المسيحي الفرنسي، واستحالة زواجهما ورفض عائلتيهما، ولكن حبهم تغلب على كل شيئ واستطاعا الزواج وانقطعو عن عائلتيهم، كان هذا الجزء مملاً قليلاً، وأزعجتني مثالية البطلين، وبدا أشبه بروايات عبير، ربما قبل خمس سنوات كانت ستعجبني الرواية وأقيمها بخمس نجوم حتى.بعد أن يتزوج البطلان ينجبان أماديا التي بدت لي قصتها غاية في الآثارة والتشويق، فبعد أن تقرر ببلوغها الثامنة عشر أن تكون ناذرة للعفة، وتستمر ست سنوات في ذلك يتم ترحيل والدتها واختها، ومن ثم يتم ترحيلها هي أيضاً إلى ملجأ في تشيكوسلوفاكيا، تهرب وتنخرط مع المقاومة والمتمردين ضد ألمانيا، وتبدأ في مساعدة رجال المخابرات.أجواء الحرب كانت مؤلمة، الموت والترحيل والقصف واليتم والإعاقات التي حدثت، متى تنتهي الحروب :(. نجمتين لقصة أماديا فقط ، أظنني بحاجة لقراءة مثل هذه الروايات التي تبعد عني الكآبة بين الحين والآخر رغم عدم واقعيتها :)

Honestly it was pretty depressing overall. These people led hard, sad lives. The daughter ends up happy in the end but what a sacrifice to get there. And you never hear what happens to her mother, sister and extended family so I can only assume they were killed in the concentration camps. So a good read but leaves you feeling a little blue.
What do You think about Echoes (2004)?
I chose this one because it's the story of Love and War and of course a relationship between a very wealthy Jew German girl and a Christian French Soldier.

على الرغم من شهرة دانييل ستيل العارمة، و على الرغم من امتلاكي لهذه الرواية و لرواية الفدية منذ سنين إلا أنني لم أقرأ لها قط. و قراءتي لهذه الرواية لم تغير رأيي.ما علمته من قبل عن الكاتبة أنها من أشهر الروائيات للقصص الرومانسية، و لكن كل قصة حب في الرواية جاءت سريعة و غريبة و مفاجئة.بالنسبة لقصة بيتا فهي لم تجذب اهتمامي، و وجدت القصة و الشخصيات في غاية الضعف. بيتا لم تتوانى إطلاقا عن تغيير ديانتها فقط بغرض تعجيل الزواج بضعة أشهر.القصة أثارت اهتمامي عند بداية الجزئية الخاصة بأماديا. و لكن يتضح أن أماديا كأمها قناعاتها بالكامل ليست قناعات و لكنها ظروف تناسبها. فقناعتها و إيمانها القويين في أن تكون راهبة يتزعزع بل يضمحل و يختفي بين كل علاقة و علاقة.و نأتي لموضوع الترجمة العجيبة، إذ استبدل المترجمون كل كلمة لا تناسبهم إما بجملة أخرى أو بإضافة النقط للنص! و على الرغم من أن القصة تتعرض لموضوع تهجير اليهود في الحرب العالمية الثانية إلا أن كلمة اليهود لم توجد إطلاقا في أي مكان بين غلافي الكتاب. مخيبة للغاية. و تصلح كفيلم سنمائي و ليس كرواية، فالشخصيات خالية من العمق و الرواية مليئة بالتفاصيل بلا داعي.

I'd heard a lot about Danielle Steel in the past and wanted to form my own opinion of her, and this was the first book of her's that I chose. Honestly, her book is like a large bag of potato chips- I know it's bad for me, I know it does nothing for my health or well being but I keep going back for more. The style of writing is hard to read, beecause the same points are being driven home over and over and over again. While the story line was creative- going through different generations of connections with echoing problems- I think she pointed out the creativity of it 4 or 5 times before the last chapter, which made it lose its novelty. I probably won't pick up another Danielle Steel book until I'm in the mood for a quick 'junk' read. I can't say it wasn't entertaining.
