I must admit I skimmed the sex-scenes,especially the chapter-long ones, and could have been quite happy with less in that area. Otherwise, I enjoyed the vampires and the world Adrian created around them. I would have liked to see a bit more of the politics and action, more of the world that provides the backdrop to the sex in this novel. Kellan was almost too much of a headstrong, defeatist idiot, though to make the plot work without more non-romantic development, I get that he had to be like that, just as Mira had to be so hot-tempered and undisciplined that one wonders how she ever managed to finish training for the position she holds in the beginning of this story. A lot of the characterization came across as contrived, not just the main characters, but the plot made up for them enough for me to give this one 4 stars. Not my favourite of the series but a decent lead-in to the new story-line of the children (now grown). I was wondering when the Atlanteans would make an appearance since they were mentioned ages ago and hinted at here and there. It was nice to learn what happened over the 20 year time span that breaks up the first 10 books within the series to this new segment.I am definitely looking forward to Nathan's story which is coming in a few weeks.
