2012:This story and the main characters were blah and never truly engaged my interest. The romantic leads never progress beyond the character template of shy girl and boy burned by first love. No real personality or chemistry shine through, and they stay very one-dimensional. I have to agree with some other reviews I read in saying that nothing was developed enough to make readers care about what happened to Kara and Jason. The book is short on plot and character growth and over-full of tepid bedroom scenes. (I also find it not-amusing that Kara Baker's job is . . . baker.)The bulk of the plot is very cookie cutter and just kind of happens: the Big Misunderstanding, the breakup, the near-death crisis, and so on. More thought seemed to go into the "as seen on TV" thing. I don't recommend.2014Update: these problems likely stem from the fact that this is re-written Twilight fanfiction. The usual modern romance, but quite well written. Plot was decent and definitely a fun summertime read. I thought there were actually too many sex scenes, but probably just because I'm used to ZERO and this book had around five (?? I wasn't counting). I'm really surprised to see this book averages OVER 4 stars on Goodreads...what? I am guessing that this book really hits the mark well for what it is, and that is the main source of enthusiasm.
It's very fortunate for the author that the word "heat" is in the English language. Way overused!!!

Quick summer read. Predictable romance but I enjoyed it.
