El Evangelio De La Anarquía (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

This book was kind of infuriating at times, because the writing was really good and he did an excellent job of capturing a particular subculture (people who are familiar with it will do the nostalgia/cringe thing that I did). But like so many books, the ending didn't live up to the beginning. Some of the POV changes were really awkward, and we didn't get to know the main characters as well as I would have liked to. David's motivations in particular were unclear. Justin Taylor is cleary a talented writer and thinker. He does some really clever things with perspective here and also it was a rare treat to read something that takes place in my hometown (Gainesville, FL). This novel reads more like a very long short story. I never felt I knew the characters well enough, they're always held at arms length. The story centers around David, bored college dropout, and three housemates of a sort of anarchist halfway house/weird religious society.Somewhere toward the middle this book went a little off the rails for me. I was able to suffer through the first part (which reads a lot like a well written male jerk off fantasy) but the latter half has a lot of the musings of the "prophet" Parker that I found myself skipping.

What do You think about El Evangelio De La Anarquía (2013)?

A good tour a different approach. It seemed very realistic and did not succumb to sterotypes.
