Elvis And Ginger: Elvis Presley's Fiancée And Last Love Finally Tells Her Story (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
Unlike memoirs written by rocker's wives who were part of the rock and roll party scene, Ginger Alden's story was that of a sweet, normal girl who caught the eye of one of the most famous entertainers of all time. Elvis certainly hid the fact of his over-medication from her and exhibited a bit of angry behavior a few times, but overall he is presented as a big-hearted loving person. Who knew of his interest in new-agey spirituality. It's just so unfortunate that like Michael Jackson he put his trust in predatory doctors. Shamefully, my love of rock and roll and my secret inner groupie make it so I can't resist a freebie rock n roll insider book. Even if it's about Elvis, who was before my time and is not high up on my favorite singer list, I'll pick it up, shuck my serious more edifying reading material and give it a go. I have to admit having a bit of an Elvis fascination since seeing the E True Hollywood Story on the last year of his life. The amount of drugs that Elvis ingested was amazing. So sad how the super famous get exploited by hanger-ons. Elvis' story and Michael Jackson's mirror each other in so many regards. The big question posed by this book is: was Ginger Alden a gold digger or Elvis' soul mate and fiancee? I don't have an answer. I suspect that by the time Miss Alden met Elvis he was too addled by his demons to be much of a partner. Elvis' fascination with Numerology seems beneath him and a sign that he wasn't thinking properly. The fact that Elvis was financially generous to Ginger and her family is not surprising. He had the reputation for being a giving person. Ginger's mother sued the estate after Elvis' death. This action seems low-class to me, even if she was trying to redeem a verbal promise.
