End Of Men, The: And The Rise Of Women (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
Yes! I now have a whole passel of fresh buzzwords to use at my disposal--and most are from the snappy, media-bait titled chapter on women in South Korea, "The Gold Misses: Asian Women Take Over the World": The Twitch (or what I've re-dubbed The BITCH Twitch), Seesaw Marriage, Pharm Girls, soybean paste girl, hot pepper paste man...A better magazine cover story or series (it started out as an Atlantic piece by Rosin) than a full-on 'serious' book, it's strongest when Rosin sticks to her stats. The chapters I found most compelling, insightful and largely devoid of the author's own projections/assumptions? A More Perfect Poison: The New Wave of Female Vioence, The Top: Nice-ish Girls Get the Corner Office and frankly, her Conclusion. Oh I don't know....the title of this book gave me the shits but demanded my attention in a dirty click bait kind of way. Some interesting points on the US in light of recent announcements here in Australia re: manufacturing and stats showing that healthcare services as a % of our economy are on the rise. And more interesting points on plastic women (eg: flexible and adaptable) vs cardboard men. Also some interesting observations on South Korea.A whole section in the middle dedicated to US college life and dating morays which I found boring as hell. Weird, 'let me justify my arguments in the face of criticism' afterword for the paperback only.Y'know - I'm not really sure this book truly shows us how we must all adapt to a radically new way of working and living....I'm not really seeing it/feeling it in the majority - I think you still have to fight for what you want. It felt like a spew of semi-related essays, stats n chats vs a strong argument.
