It had a very weak hold on me through the first half, but it lost in the latter half. It was the second-person narration that did it. It was gimmicky and irritating. The random peppering of wannabe "profound" statements didn't help either, and more than once I found myself rolling my eyes at how shallow the writing really was, specially when it was trying to be deep. I liked the characters, and sometimes the prose was beautifully evocative--particularly when describing a city or place. The story just wasn't enough to keep me interested in them. For the most part, it was just alright. Sometimes it was just exhausting. It started off with promise, I was interested although possibly because of a closer understanding to the mentality of the characters and some of my own shortcomings. Then the story died. I finished it quickly and I thought it was a quick read, but I fell asleep a couple times once I got into book two. The end picked up again but there was too much drag in the middle. I would have liked a little more depth to the characters also though I I'd have some connection to them.
very well written. great book but depressing. should give it a 4 or 5 but it was too devastating.

wow. but it almost wrecked me to read it, so caution if you are depressed or melancholy already.

Brilliant. Loved, loved this book. Poetic. Graceful. True.
