Expresso Shot (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

Clare is preparing a coffee and dessert bar for a wedding at the Metropolitan Museum. Having it at the museum is special but what makes it really special is the wedding is for her ex-husband and his socialite finance, Breanne Summour. Clare is OK with Breanne's bridezilla attacks but when someone starts attacking the people around Breanne, she is convinced that it is actually Breanne who is the target. As usual, this book was lots of fun. Clare and her family are always in interesting situations. Matt, her ex, and his intended add to the mystery. For instance, why ARE they getting married? There is always fun information about New York, (or wherever, Clare is) and the surrounding area. And it would not be a Coffeehouse Mystery without lots and lots of premium coffee. This series falls into my "mysteries I read and enjoy and don't know why" genre. I love coffee and can practically smell it the whole way through the books, yet sometimes Clare's constant bean-lectures and chastising about technique give me a serious case of the eye-rolls. Also, when it comes to her ex-husband she's kind of a shrew with her constant reminders of his infidelity and drug addiction. Clare is also a mega helicopter mom and I would have run away to France too if my mom poked into my business the way Clare does to Joy.Still, I like the plotlines and the other characters and I love that it always comes back to the coffeehouse, which seems like a magical place (as all coffeehouses are). So I keep reading them and then feeling like Clare would totally scorn my not-spotless coffeemaker and pre-ground beans that were not hand selected by a sexy man tramping through the jungles of South America. We can't all have bean roasters in the basement, you know?
