First, let me start by saying, I read the reviews so I feel I knew what I was in for. I knew their would be misunderstandings, angst, heartbreak. I don't know why, but I actually really enjoy when the heroine is devastated by something the hero does, and he has to work to get build back their trust and love. This book had this premise, but just somehow missed the mark to me.I didn't mind the heroine so much. She is portrayed as being innocent, beautiful, down on her luck, and hard working. Most of the time she showed quite a back-bone. I did not like the hero much at all--that rarely happens for me. He falls short of being considered "alpha", and actually seems more spoiled and whiney. I did, for the most part, enjoy the hero's sister, and the h's friends--I thought they were very entertaining. When it came to the plot, I found myself rolling by eyes and shaking my head--ALOT. I felt that the heroine was chasing after the hero too many times, not letting him actually redeem himself. I had trouble telling that they actually got out of that lust phase, and fell in real love. The writing style was OK. The plot moved quickly--but smoothly. It is done in first person switching between the H and h (which I love). I don't feel it pulls the reader in as much as other books (it still makes you feel like your looking from the outside), but I thought it was decent. For what it was, it definitely wasn't a terrible book. I would recommend if you are looking for something quick, and a little angsty to read. A good premise was lost. Not one of my favorites. Others commented on how something was missing. I agree with their analysis. For me, it was Ryland T. Sinclair and the constant referrals to his name. I never felt like his character was properly fleshed out. He retained way too many female characteristics. He might have a body to die for and looks that would outshine Brad Pitt, but his mental make-up was flat. Being a male, obviously, I have endured heartache and loss, but the spectrum of emotions was well catalogued. At times, I thought he was a sniveling, groveling bugger. Granted, he writes romance novels for a living, thus he must span the horizons of emotions, but not like a loony, lost teenager. Another let down was the climax (no pun intended) occurred sixty percent through the book. What was that all about? The rest came across as filler. A book doesn’t end with an anti-climax, does it?I think the real disappointment was the love making scenes. After a while they reminded me of “slam-bang-thank ya ma’am/sir.” They were predictable and unentertaining. I just didn’t feel any heart with them. The first ones were well crafted, but after that, it was like watching a Trojan Commercial. Next. I’m sure there are many women out there who will love this work, but for me, and I do like a good love story, this one missed the mark.
