A superb book, from start to finish. I began the story wanting to be friends with Kat and by the conclusion, I wanted to BE Kat. Denise's brilliant gift for characterization was very evident in this work, as I found myself either identifying with or at least sympathizing with all the characters. It's been many years since my own adolescence (okay, about 27 years, give or take a few) but the personalities and situations presented were timeless and true to life. This is my favorite YA book and one that I recommend to my adult friends. Kat Flynn, a.k.a. "Yoga Girl," is a bit of an outcast at school. Her mother, Abra, is the best home midwife in Colorado. Unfortunately, she's too busy tending to pregnant women to listen to Kat's issues.Issue #1: Manny Cruz. One of the most popular guys in school...and the guy she's been crushing on forever. When he begins showing interest in Kat...should she seriously believe this could be happening?Issue #2: Libby Giles. The most popular girl in school, and an ex-girlfriend of Manny's. When a twist of fate throws her into Kat's and Abra's lives, how can Kat break it to her mother that Libby already has a mother...but it feels to Kat like she doesn't!Issue #3: When Kat loses her cool at her first birth experience, she quits the Midwifery. She realizes she doesn't really want to...but how can she convey this to Abra?
