I liked the book, but it wasn’t really a great book. I think the plot went hot and cold because things moved quickly and things progressed with the characters without having any real resolve. Jenna is the main character and although I don’t hate her, I can’t stand the situation that she was placed in. Her fiancé cheated with her best friend which in any case should spell the end of both relationships. Because Jenna has a life planned with a fiancé she had to change those plans and ended up moving home. The first person she meets once she moved home was her ex best friend’s brother whom she also had a crush on and he turned down. She doesn’t have a reason to dislike him because he wasn’t involved in the situation and he does attempt to be her friend independent of Jenna’s issue with his sister. They try to make things work and form a healthy relationship, but everything happened to quickly for me. They get involved in a relationship and the plot that was already predictable seemed to have a glimmer of excitement, but lost it all. Apparently Sutton had a past in Chicago and once that was revealed I was underwhelmed. It wasn’t that I expected him to be a mob boss or something dramatic, but the level at which he guarded this secret made me aware that he was overly extra with his actions. He created the problem and did not resolve it at all because he chose to once again make a dramatic choice which leads to bigger problems. The story concludes and everything is fixed but there is no real resolution to me. Jenna and Sutton just seem figure things out, but Jenna and Sutton’s sister are more or less in the same position. His sister gives an explanation but at the end of the day how does that repair their friendship or mend the possible relationship between future in laws because their reunion seemed forced as though she waited at the last possible moment to give an explanation for the sake of drama. I think for the sake of it this book took a lot of turns that wanted to be dramatic, but really made the plot seem a bit too much because they made situations forced. It was an overall book that I would read again regardless of finding the flaws in it. It was a quick and enjoyable read even with its flaws. I didn’t like the things Sutton did in the book, but I still liked his character and I know that sounds weird. I enjoyed it because I didn’t focus on the flaws while reading it but thinking back about it I know the things I would change. I enjoyed this. I did get frustrated by the characters quite a bit and I was really annoyed by Sutton's decision towards the end of the book, but I still thought the story was enjoyable to read. I'm a sucker for best friend's older brother stories. I like that there was a history there. I thought the ending was too abrupt and really hope this becomes a series. Maybe Lacey can find someone to help her become less immature :)
