The joke had been on her, though, because Lawrence had let her down. She’d promised to be a woman without strings when they’d started dating. He’d been married once already, with young-adult children ready to fly the nest; the last thing he wanted was another marriage...another child. She’d said she was fine with that. He’d offered travel, parties, hobnobbing with the important people in the art world. Everything a young artist could hope for.
