Alright, so I've had this book for quite a few years. And besides the terrible rating I gave it, this book is actually very dear to my heart, and I'm not exactly sure I can explain why. I know this is a similar book based off of Twilight, and that's originally why I picked up this book in the past (when I was going through my Twilight phase). First up, the writing is terrible. Estella (well thought out name by the way) snorts every other sentence. Edgar (again, I can tell the author had a hard time coming up with that name) furrows his eyebrow every couple of seconds, striking a dangerous, yet sexy pose. The characters are very deep or complex, although the author tries to make them seem that way. And the way she tries, just makes the characters seem whiny and insecure (which they are) and every emotion they have is WAY over the top. I think a part of me that liked this book is the part that knows that my writing (which totally smells like butt cheeks by the way) is exactly like this when I was in high school (and even more so now that I'm out of high school). The style writing, and how hard she tries to make it romantic, but it ends up over the top and revolting almost (yep, I can relate). They can turn in ravens? Really?Edgar Poe? Really? Even I snorted at that part. REALLY?Ugh, there's so much more...but I can't....I just can't. I'm too tired to write anymore. Maybe I'll update this someday. Maybe. Shakes head in frustration….I read the first few pages and got excited, the book starts out with Edgar Allen Poe! I figure this is going to be epic!I am disappointed to say the least. There were so many elements in this story that could have made it amazing, but somehow or another it just didn’t come together for me personally. I know there are other books to continue the story, and I know at some point I will read them, just to see how it all works out in the end, but for the moment I am not going to rush to read them. I am sure I will think of something more specific besides “it didn’t work for me” eventually, but for the moment we will just leave it at that.In spite of this, the writer herself has talent, It was easy to imagine the scenery, and feel the emotions, which I appreciated. Hopefully down the road I will finish the series of and have a much better outlook (finger’s crossed for maybe a slow start??)
