Forgive the rambling mess below, this is really just to capture my thoughts:A decent story, and an intriguing start to the series, I liked this book well enough. Prince Leon is a bit changeable (ha!) and it’s hard to get a bead on his character as first. Is he just ‘easy’ or is there more to him? Turns out there’s a lot more! Never read a story between a werewolf and a dragon before. And when the ‘wolf’ chooses the dragon in human form? Well, it’s just a bit anticlimactic for me. I liked the idea of a slightly clueless dragon, and the world building was good, and I especially liked Nyle’s parents and would have loved to read their story as well. The story is a bit uneven though; at times Nyle or the narrorator refers to Leon as ‘the werewolf’ but it’s not developed much in the story, except as a device to bring the two together quickly (too quickly for my liking-I took Leon to be a slut at first). I did like the ‘hoard’ mentality of the dragons, but for it to be likened to mating was also a bit off. The dragons claim their jewels as part of their hoard, and also anyone that they deem worth keeping-but ok that’s not the same as mating! Anyhew, cute story-enough that I continued with the series! Loved it!I'd neverheard of Mell Eight before, so didn't know whether it would be that good, but LT3 publish books I love so I took a (slight) chance.I was very happy. I enjoyed every bit of this - the genre, the characters, world-building, all of it. It was a real page-turner and delightful reading to cheer you up. The naive dragon was gorgeous! It was so good I've pre-ordered the sequel.
