Fire Burn And Cauldron Bubble (2000) - Plot & Excerpts
That old saying "don't judge a book by it's cover" applies here because this one had me totally fooled. I thought the cheeky cover and silly title would have me reading something akin to Bewitched but no. This book was anything but. Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble was incredibly serious. As in war serious. When the main character is ripped out of the world she once knows (and loves) and faced with life changing events you'd think I'd warrant that with appearance of the novel and I probably would have liked the book better had I thought I was reading something that showed the intensity of the book. But I have to give credit for the book was filled with loads of sexual tension (which I kinda liked), drama, and suspense despite not being the snarky novel I really wanted it to be. Despite that, I really got along with Jolie. Her next door neighbor attitude to everything is refreshing (even though some would say boring). Her stubborn attitude and frankly her revolt against anyone trying to push her over is quite invigorating. She may be naïve but hell she's not stupid. On the other hand, all her love interests seems a bit outlandish. When she had flings with two + species and then to another and then another after awhile I was like why not. I mean, how ridiculous can this get. Granted the book did say that all those underworlders were a kinky bunch. Kinky doesn't quite properly describe it. More like randy. All in all I thought it was pretty good and I'm eager to read the next one. This was quite a nice read, and a solid start to what will probably be a good series. The story line was interesting and pretty good and kept me wanting to keep reading to know more.I found it really difficult to like Joli, however. She was just so... inconsistent. All 'I am female, he me roar', one second, and then falling into a heap of tears the next. Often for no reason. He mood swings were just too dramatic. And for someone who didn't have much of a sex life, she was certainly thinking about it A LOT. Not to mention ALL the men were pervy - even the ghost! And the explanation? Warlocks are attracted to each other, and vampires are sexy. That was pretty much it. I get that this was supposed to have a romantic/sexual element, but it could have been a little bit less blatantly everywhere all the time. That said, I did enjoy it overall and will probably pick up the next one and some point.
What do You think about Fire Burn And Cauldron Bubble (2000)?
One of the worst books I have ever read. No creativity, weak characters and a predictable plot.
