Well the storyline was somewhat interesting. And I'm not a hundred percent positive but was Maia really in a hospital for her grief and receiving sponge baths?? I hope I read that wrong.Other than that, and the fact that there were many unrealistic factors, incorrect facts, as well as cheesy dialogue, For the Love of a God wasn't exactly terrible. But I have to admit I skipped A Lot. For me, it got progressively boring. It's not a book I would read again. In fact, I almost didn't finish it. A few parts made me chuckle and, for that, I couldn't give it one star. Okay. No.It's not cute to keep all the other Greek god /goddess names and edit Eros to be Eryx. Ερως. Got it?Let's talk about Nemesis the goddess of indignation against, and retribution for, evil deeds and undeserved good fortune. She is basicly the Greek goddess who embodies Robin Hood. The times she gets involved with love? It was because of unrequited love, yes - but when the would be lover killed themselves for just the slightest sign of affection and did not receive it. I do not like to think of her as a daughter of Zeus - why? That means in some versions of Greek myth that Zeus mated with his own daughter to produce Helene. So when I am sympathetic to her for the most part of the book? It works out to really annoy me. With you know Maia and...Eryx. Yeah can we talk about the sex?Ew. Ick.Was that supposed to be good sex? It sure as heck does not read like any kind of sex I would want. Just, no thanks. I sure hope it was meant to be more funny than serious - or I am just not the target for this kind of bookNewsflash though Apollo and Artemis? They get confused with Roman Apollon and Diana. They aren't sun and moon deities to the Greeks. I know it's a mistake that many writers make. But still..does someone want to touch upon the subject of why Apollo whose nearly every love story ends with heartbreak and death - or Artemis a virgin goddess! - would want to help 'Eryx ' god of love - as in procreation? Yeah there's a brain fart.I can see Dionysus hanging about - but why the writer didn't use such Erotes as Anterôs, Hêdylogos, Himeros, Pothos, Hymenaios, or Hermaphroditos? Probably because it either irks her ideas of love (despite Dino the token gay best friend - we never see him flush out into anything more than a manly shaped girl) in ancient Greek times it wasn't all about girl and guy orgies - there are myths of males gods loving male mortals. Or more likely she has no idea such myths and gods exist.A part of me hopes this novel is some kind of sickly funny joke and not to be taken serios. Really - really -really does. Oh the title's irony. I am not impressed.
