Forgiving Lies (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

This book did not work for me, let me start with that. Quick summary of the story: Kash is an undercover cop sent to another city to hide from a drug gang. He meets rachel, his neighbor who loves with her cousin. Rachel has a traumatic past but Kash manages to get past her defenses and after a period of friendship they fall in love. Here's what I didn't like (warning: major plot spoilers!)- Rachel is being raped in the beginning of the book. That in itself is something many young women experience (sadly enough) so yay to the author for including something like that (which is why I even gave a second star). But: the fact that her cousin/best friend didn't believe Rachel was utterly ridiculous. Why do you want to stay friends with someone who doesn't believe you when you say you've been raped? Candi is a very unsympathetic character in the whole book by the way, not a 'best friend' at all. Hated her. - Kash is a bit too good to be true. Where are his flaws, except for the fact that he doesn't tell Rachel he's an undercover cop? He's the perfect partner: watches romantic movies, is willing to be a buddy, doesn't press for sex, listens, helps you work through traumas. Plus he has a perfect body of course. Bleh. Boring. - there were too many aspects of the story that didn't make sense. The odds that the murderer Kash is looking for is Rachel's attacker. The fact that undercover cops are being sent to a completely foreign city. The fact that Rachel didn't press charges against her attacker. Rachel not only surviving another attack (being mutilated and all) but willing to even enter into a relationship. Hello, PTSD? Trauma? Mental issues? Plus the fact that at the end of the novel (which was the biggest issue really) she is kidnapped once again, by that drug gang. Really? Anybody want to calculate the odds for that one?Chapter one starts with a huge info dump by the way, pages 2 and 3 are all backstory. Not very elegant and it stops the story right after it starts. Nope, didn't like it at all. I have read 3 other McAdams books. With most of them, you have a love-hate relationship with MM, because she creates these characters that you love and gives them these great relationships, that you are jealous of, and then PLOT TWIST! But, this was the worst for me. MM -- you broke my heart again. Maybe we can make up after I read "Deceiving Lies". Great charactersGreat romanceLots of humor and charmGood pacingLots of emotion and parts where I held my breathBut that ending!!!!!
