If you're going on holiday, you need to take this book with you. It really fills you with a warm glow and reminds you of past holidays spent with your family. Each chapter is told from a different person's perspective so avoid it if you don't like those types of novels - personally, I love them - so you really get to know each of the characters well. I was impressed with the level of detail that Henry put into all of the places she talked about, it made the novel feel so realistic! A perfect beach-read. From the first few pages I began to feel that this was not going to be my sort of book and things did not improve. It reminded me of Maeve Binchy’s Whitethorn Woods, where stories of separate individuals are linked by their visiting or belonging to a particular place, in the case of this book, the Beach Huts. I wanted to award it two and a half stars but the system did not permit so I reluctantly went for three. Probably just as well since everyone’s taste in reading matter is not my own.I found the writing rather obvious and the characters tended to be stereotypical. The book lacked any depth or substance. There was a lot of sentimental slosh, affairs of the heart where everything always turns out alright in the end, e.g. “ A lifetime of sunshine and laughter lay in front of them.” It’s definitely not real life. The book became a little more interesting just over a third of the way through when some of the stories began to interweave. But if you are looking for holiday escapism and want a change from magazines by the pool, this may be the one for you.
What do You think about Für Immer Am Meer (2012)?
Very easy book to read, just what you need if you don't want anything taxing.
