Full Tilt (2003) - Plot & Excerpts

Downloaded from Audible.comNarrator: Lorelei KingPublisher: Macmillan Audio, 2003Length: 7 hours and 22 min.Publisher's SummaryDear Listener,With Full House, my good friend Charlotte Hughes and I teamed up to create an exciting new series. Now we bring you the second audiobook, Full Tilt, which is filled with even more fast-paced action, crazy characters, steamy sex, suspense, and nonstop hilarity. While these audios are not set in the world of Stephanie Plum, we're convinced they will bring you all the fun, wisecracks, and the adventure that we love.Jamie Swift has one priority in quiet Beaumont, South Carolina: running the local newspaper. Romance runs second. But with the arrival of her silent partner, the notoriously mysterious and sexy Maximillian Holt, Jamie's life gets shaken up. Max claims he's here to give his brother-in-law a vote of confidence. A former wrestler, Frankie Fontana's now taking his shots in the political ring. Beaumont could use a mayor with scruples, but what it gets is a crime - and what Jamie gets is a story that's taking her for a ride on the wild side, complete with two assassins, a washed-up stripper, and an insane poacher. Between a spray of bullets and a fast getaway, could it get any more romantic - or dangerous? Max and Jamie are betting their lives on a long shot.Charlotte and I hope you'll enjoy listening to Full Tilt as much as we have enjoyed creating it.Janet EvanovichThis program is produced for mature audiences.

I enjoy these books by Janet Evanovich and Charlotte Hughes a whole lot more than the Stephanie Plum series, which I detest. This series is cute and hilarious. Workaholic Jamie Swift is engaged to Phillip Standish (a fine upstanding rich guy) when her silent partner, Maximillian Holt comes to town to visit his sister, DeeDee, Jamie's best friend. DeeDee is married to ex-wrestler Frankie who is running for mayor and has promised to stop the corruption in their small town and find out where all the tax money has disappeared to. Here is where the fun starts..or should I say the danger starts. Someone is trying to kill Max, Jamie and/or Frankie. Millionaire Max has many resources and between his money and Jamie's newspaper connections, they join together to solve the mystery. A rolicking good time is had by all (er um most).Be prepared for a few incompetent assassins, a washed-up whiny stripper, an insane poacher and the hungry alligators. Oh and don't forget about the Maxmobile - a supped-up futuristic computer-driven porsche. The computer is named Muffin and has the husky voice of Marilyn Monroe. Reminiscent of Night Rider's Kitt only sexier and brainer! An enjoyable super-quick read.

What do You think about Full Tilt (2003)?

I probably wouldn't have read this as part of the continuing Full Series, if it hadn't been for a couple things: 1) If I hadn't already been on a quest to read all of Janet's books2) If my Aunt hadn't told me how much she loved this series. That being said, I also think I actually read this one once before about 5 or 6 years ago. As a random book that I found at the library before I really 'discovered' Janet Evanovich. This book was MUCH better than the first book of the series!! MUCH!! You can tell how much Janet's skills had developed over the years in-between the first and second book. I'm glad that I continued on with this series. It provided more smiles and giggles and something other than Bounty Hunting. I do like the path that she takes with this series as well. Although I complained that the first book was very corny I missed the presence of the two original characters in the first book. There were also some major disconnects and inconsistencies in the details. That was annoying, but I soon got over it (had to lol). Oh another thing, I didn't like the whole two men scenario... My ex-husband had fidelity issues and so I tend to be sensitive to such things. Overall good book, fun and I'm excited for #3.

This book was a lot better than the first in the series. When I was reading the first book, I found myself wondering how the series was going to follow the teen aged character Max. Well, I got my answer in the second book - Max is now all grown up and very wealthy and successful. It is as if the first book was written with no sequel intended and then was revived with some adjustments so a series could be created. Perhaps that was what happened - I don't know. The book was less heavy on the romance, than the first book, and had more action and plot. It read more like an Evanovich book, with quirky characters, humour and some mystery and danger thrown in. This is pure light entertainment and as I have the third book in the series, I shall be reading that one soon.
