Amano Yukkiteru a 14 year old 2nd year middle school student who has problems making friends, he keeps a diary on his phone believing himself to be a bystander of the world happenings he writes whatever happens around him. His only friends are imaginary one of the is Deus Ex Machina the lord of space and time who turns out to be not so imaginary. Deus tells Yukkiteru of a game he's planing after gifting his phone with the ability to tell the future. Yukkiteru's joy is quickly brought to an end after his cell phone predicts he will die. After managing to defeat the murderer after him, Yukki finds out that Deus's game involved him and 11 other contestants, all having future diaries as well using their foreshadowing powers to fight to the death, last man standing becomes Deus's successor. Desperate to survive Yukki teams up with Gasai Yuno his psychotic stalker who'd do anything for him from killing to dying. I really recommend reading this story a lot of people think that just because it manga it can't have an intricate storyline but that is not so this is honestly one of the best mangas I have ever read. The reason it's one of the best is because you watch him through his struggles watching trying to survive as a simple boy then as the story progresses he gains a reason to fight and transforms into someone who can actually fight back. The second reason I really like this story is the mystery it is one of the most interesting aspects of this manga, Who are the other diary holders? Are they friend or foe?, Who is Gasai Yuno really? Why is she so fixated with Yukkiteru?. The third reason the twists you really think you see some thing coming and the truth is you don't. In conclusion Mirai Nikki (Future Diary) is a must read. It is action packed it has mystery and even romance. The other diary holders will drive you crazy with their abilities there is more that one way to look into the future. This is also a good read because all the characters have great background stories and motives to win the game. Read Mirai Nikki I've read all 10 volumes.Deus ex machina controls time. He is dying. He needs a successor. 12 Players get a diary that predict the future and use them to kill each other. At a point each gets a "dead end" notice. A check-mate. Theoretically the one who should survive is the one who is most skilled in controlling time or cause and effect by doing what he can in his human form. When he gets the god-Power he should do a good job.Main character: desperately wants friends but avoids people and declines invitations to social activities (I can't figure out why!). Parents are divorced, mom is constantly working. The kid has a journal but it's about what he did and what he saw - he is an observer of his surroundings, without really actively taking part in what is happening. (Not why he did it, how he felt, what he thought about...all diaries in this series are partial, not like a normal persons diary or journal)- this diary is on his cellphone. I find the idea absurd to have to type on this puny keyboard. Not to mention: no handwriting, no sketches, no personalization.A school teacher writing a journal on his cell phone (3d) idiotic. and it's the "murder diary" xDa police officer writing a journal about his cases...on his cell (4th)The only one that made sense is the one about the death guy and the dictaphone, the kid with his drawing book and the religious girl and her scroll. Who would keep a journal on a cell?!The main character is a whiny, depressed, emo snotty little brat. No motivation to live whatsoever, thinks and says he is a failure. HE isn't a good successor - he hasn't got a clue how to manipulate cause and effect. He is really slow in learning from YUNO.Yuno is a troubled girl, who had sick parents. Mother abused her and dad wasn't there. So she kills them. Having no reason to live she decides to just pick one and she picks that idiot (the main character).and then obsessively follows him, trying to become intimate with him.Luckily she is a cold-blooded killer and would do anything to protect Amano...he would have otherwise died at the beginning of the game.her journal is about him. She is totally codependent. TOTALLY CODEPENDENT.I practically read the manga because of her. I don't know why I'm so fascinated by abused kids who go nuts.________________________those characters would do unreasonable things. Amano is scared to death, just wants to save his bum but at one point he trows himself in the jaws of danger to rescue a "potential friend" (who, by the way, FOR SURE was just trying to use him...as bait...AND HE KNEW FOR SURE!...) absurd. mostly acts like a 8-year-old.Yuno is just mentally ill. You can't put an age to her.the end is even more absurd. The problem is that in this world once a dude dies you can't revive him even if you do become Deus' successor. So how I see it...the problem is: there could only be one...if there could be two IN THE FIRST WORLD there would be a happy end. BUT NOOOOOO....we must let them first suffer...and then on a whim Deus changes his mind. Sure...why not.The art isn't bad...but (magically) in all the fighting these guys kind of almost never get burns, scars, wounds or something of that sort - those things are drawn but I ain't happy with it...not to mention that I saw at least 2 cut of hands...like...no creativity in aspect of all the human parts that could be injured (why two cut of hands?)... and drawn bad.4th gets his ear blown of...no detail. 9th gets eye pulled out...I know how a pulled out eye looks like - I've done it to a corpse in medical school...like...why can't those mangaka get some anatomy books?I don't know what that whiny emo kid is made of but if he was human he'd be in a wheels chair by the end of volume 3!...like...let him drag a foot at least...
