George Washington: The Crossing (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
Short, simple, and to the point. It's nice as a short distraction, but there's not really a ton of substance. It also annoyingly continues the lionization of George Washington as the perfect military leader in all regards, but that's mostly implicit. Unfortunately, there's just not a lot here, but what is here is quite good. If you're looking for a book to get older children (9-11) interested in American history, then you could do much worse, but if you're looking to educate yourself then you can do much better. A very compelling telling of George Washington, the Battle of Trenton and the events immediately prior. This is a very small book and a quick read, but it tells the story very well, along with period artwork and drawings and maps of where the various armies went.I would recommend this for children learning about the American Revolution, for their parents and for anyone who would like to learn about and understand this momentous event.
