The summary of the plot I read sounded promising, so I gave it a shot.. the writing was abysmal, at best. I felt like I was reading a catty exchange on Facebook between teenagers instead of a suspense story involving women in their 30s. I was determined to keep reading to see if the story was at least good.. I could not continue. I had to surrender when I got to the phrase "downright lickalicious"... which I wish I could say was used ironically or as a joke or something. It was used seriously. A piece of the literary world may have died as a result. I guess I have only myself to blame for ignoring the fact the title contained the word "girlz." If you've recently joined Alcoholics Anonymous, this is not the book for you. As a girls get away in Mexico, there are constant cervesas and tequila shots and cocktails. I almost got a contact drunk from reading this. That didn't bother me. But the pacing dragged, and there was a lot of telling, rather than showing, and often, telling of unimportant details. For example, they are supposedly cruising the main tourist shopping area in hopes of locating the woman they think is the killer, and get drawn into a shop. The killer is not in the shop, then we get a blow by blow description of what was bought: So-and-So bought this, and so-and-so bought that. None of the items bought had any significance later on, and sheds little light on who the characters were.Of the four lead characters, only Vivian and Lucy felt well-defined; Kate and Wendy (note: I had to look up her name after reading about her for the whole book) were not. The jokes and humor felt flat (to me, YMMV), and the whodunnit wasn't compelling. It's the first book by this duo; their craft may improve with time/experience. I did feel like I got a decent tourist's eye view of the sights and sounds of this small Mexican beach town, so if that's what you're looking for, you might enjoy this.
What do You think about Getaway Girlz (2012)?
This book was just ok...quick and easy read, but very predictable.
