Ghost Hand (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I received this book as a read 4 review. Ghost Hand is an action packed page turner! If it hadn't been for real life getting in the way, I never would have been able to step out of this amazing world that Ripley Patton has so eloquently weaved for us. Ghost Hand is non-stop action from beginning until end. I need to have a book suck me in during the first couple of chapters or I tend to get bored, put it down, and walk away. This book had me intrigued right away! Chapter 1 has me asking "Who is Marcus" and then I found myself asking the same question during chapter 30. The characters are very interesting, and extremely surprising. Olivia and Marcus keep you guessing until the very end, and even then I found myself wondering what could be in store for them during book 2. These characters are great! I found myself routing for Olivia when I thought things looked their bleakest, and cheering for her when she finally stood her ground! Marcus' story makes you want to cry, get mad, and get even. He's an extremely easy character to relate to. Even the supporting characters were interesting and had something to contribute to the story. I am looking forward to seeing what Passion, Nose, and Yale add to the story for book 2. I am hoping the author will build these characters up in the next book and give them some real staying power. Emma was a pretty one dimensional character and I found her lacking, I hope to see another side to Emma in the future. I love the way the author describes things throughout the book. When referring to her dad's cemetery plot (as there is no headstone just the section/plot number) the author writes "G42...My dad was nothing but a bingo call." Overall, I think this is a fabulous debut novel, and a great start to a new and fresh trilogy with a subject matter that isn't the same as every other book in the genre. If you're looking for something new I would definitely suggest checking this book out. You won't be sorry. This was an interesting read with a very inventive take on "magic." I really like the development of PSS and the things it could do. The mix in the world was interesting between those who accept it, those who have it, those who want it and/or are scared of it. Olivia was hilariously realistic and I thought the book ended well. My qualms were the underdevelopment of secondary characters, the sheer fact of tent homes, and that the delivery of the story was a bit choppy.

What do You think about Ghost Hand (2012)?

Ehhh it was just a 99 cent book, nothing really special, and the main character was too winey for me
