This is an easy and amusing way to improve your cultural literacy. You've probably heard a lot of the stories from the bible, but never in context and usually they're told to serve some explicit agenda and generally leave out awkward parts. This one doesn't throw anything out but the boring genealogies. Imagine the bible (old and new testaments) summarized by a Jewish comedian. I listened to the audiobook, which was very well narrated and includes a pdf with Shannon Wheeler's cartoons. I had read through the entire bible years ago and it took me quite awhile. This "condensed" version took me just a couple of days. I actually enjoyed this one a lot more as it gave me a greater understanding of the books of the bible without all the sacred language and, what I feel, is unnecessary geneology. What was missing though was the feeling I remembered having when I read the Psalms and Proverbs. I didn't come away comforted like I had before. Some may say that this book made fun of what is contained in this sacred book, I say not at all. While it does contain some funny comments, I thought it added to the contents in a good light-hearted way.An enjoyable read for sure.
Funny at first, but I couldn't get through the whole thing. The conceit got old after a while.
