I really enjoyed the book the only reason i gave it 3 stars instead of more was because like other reviewers i was a bit disappointed in P.C Casts lack of research also the ending was a bit weird... like all the reincarnations having exactly the same names. Also Merlin's character was truly pathetic.. woe to me sort of stuff. pros:Quite a good, fun book to read when you don't want to take things to seriously. Gwen.. My favourite character she truly is a spoilt teenager and i think that it is probably a very accurate representation for modern readers. The part when her and Lancelot's relationship is made public and she wants to only be with him but sulks when she discovers she is not going to be queen anymore made me laugh uncontrollably.Isabelle. I like the fact that shes older. The reviewer moaning that she is to old has missed the point.. the goddess summoning novels are not really designed for teenagers. Id say 20-30 years of age is her target audience with these books. She is a war zone photographer... Great Job. It is also relevant because she has been on the line of battle before and that comes in kind of handy. Also come on who doesn't love the trick she plays on the invading army..genius (even if a bit unrealistic).ConsLack of research about Medieval Britain. Lancelot: How many times did you want to punch this bloke in the face? I am totally torn by this book. On the one hand, this was one of my favorite books in the series. I loved the story! I loved the characters! I loved so much of it! But the ending SUCKED! Okay, so maybe that's not the most eloquent way to put it, but I felt like the ending was seriously messed up.I loved the supporting cast and the play between all the characters. I have never cared for the King Arthur legends (for many reasons), but this is the first one I've come across that made me actually like Arthur, Guinevere, and Lancelot. I loved Isabel and her personality as she bursts into Camelot like a bull in a china shop. I loved how her relationship with Arthur developed.However, the ending felt rushed, inconsistent, and frankly silly. It didn't need to happen that way. (SPOILER) During an assassination attempt, Mordred takes an arrow protecting Arthur and Isabel uses a magic necklace the Lady of the Lake gave her to restore him. She was told it had consequences when she used it, but she does it anyway and is transported back to modern day, forever separated from Camelot. However, Mordred takes the arrow in his shoulder and they don't even attempt to save him, Isabel just jumps in with the necklace. A shoulder wound isn't that serious and could be easily healed. Plus, though it is established that the magic comes with a cost, it never explains why sending her back to the modern day is that cost. But more than that, Viviane says at the beginning that what happens to her after she succeeds in saving Camelot is up to her, but suddenly she doesn't have that option any more? It seemed strange. Not to mention, I didn't like the fact that we have no idea what happened to Arthur afterwards. He was struggling so much before Isabel came and with her sudden (and unexplained) disappearance, it seemed like it would be really hard on him--maybe even to the point of destroying all of Isabel's good work. Normally, I wouldn't have a problem with unanswered questions because most modern books have a limited POV, but the books are written in an omniscient POV, which gives the reader the chance to see everything behind the scenes.The epilogue tries to scrape together a happy ending, but it was too sickly sweet and rushed for me. (SPOILER) When Isabel reappears in modern times, she's saved from her deadly car wreck by Arthur in modern times, who is now a firefighter. He's surrounded by the reincarnated souls of everyone they cared about in Camelot. It was just trying to hard to be perfect. Besides the fact that these modern people were speaking in very stilted language for modern day (Mordred is still named Mordred...a bizarre name for modern days...and calls Arthur "father" instead of dad), everyone just accepts that Arthur has been dreaming of Isabel and that she's the woman of his dreams and they instantly ride off into the sunset. It was so rushed that it just wasn't satisfying or set up well, not to mention I was left feeling sad for Arthur, because even though Isabel immediately gets a happy ending, he had to spend his life in Camelot without her.So, the book itself was amazing through most of it, but the very end destroyed it for me. I hated the ending with a passion. It was inconsistent, silly, and rushed. It felt like P.C. Cast suddenly decided she needed to end it, so she slapped on a few parting sentences to wrap it all up.Again, this book (like the rest of the series) does contain graphic sex scenes (though this one has much less than the others), so steer clear if you don't like that or be as lucky as me and have a friend that edited it for you! :)
