I think it is important to note to anyone considering trying roller derby that this isn't how it always is. As someone who plays roller derby there are parts of this book that I disagree with. No one would be allowed to skate if they thought they would be concussed, it would wreck their derby insurance. Also broken tailbones never really fully heal. Trust me on that one, it's been a year now and the damn things still hurts if I sit too long. Fresh Meat is scary and hard and you get a wide range of talent but for a lot of leagues getting through fresh meat is quiet a process. Some leagues even have try-outs for fresh meat.Overall the story is interesting although it is more split into two different stories. Which does tend to happen when you play roller derby. I almost wished there was more to the story about her life outside of derby and what happened with her ex husband. Also the whole counselling bit seemed like a waste of time since nothing really came out of it. Really, really enjoyed this book! There were a couple plot mistakes (at the beginning of the book a character has a monologue about how they've never been a morning person, but at the middle the same character revisits memories of being a morning person), but definitely enjoyed the overall idea of the book. Conquering life's curveballs through new and empowering relationships and activities. Fast and good read.
OMGosh. This was hysterical. Probably because she thinks like me. I could not stop laughing.

Loved how light hearted this was, but still with a great story.
