Goodbye Quilt, The (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

It took me a while to start enjoying this book. At first I thought, "O.K. so this is a book about you and your daughter." And it was a bit tedious. But by the end of the book I really liked it. She does bring up quilting quite a bit in her writings, but I finally figured out that it's somewhat symbolic of her life and her perspective, which her daughter acknowledges at the end. This is the story of a mom and her daughter as they go on a road trip to where the daughter is going to college. My heart aches for her because this daughter is her only child, and there's a real bond for her with her daughter. She's been a good mom, which is refreshing - it sounds like she never put being a mom "on the back burner". I applaud that decision by the author. I recommend this book to a large audience, whether or not your daughter is grown or in diapers. It's got a good message at the end of the story. And it really is an easy to read book. P.S. It's not about moving on, it's about moving forward. And I like the ending a lot. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The only way to describe it is heartwarming. Anyone who has sent a child off to college or maybe to the military will love it. Even if it doesn't mirror your experience, so much of it will be close. As a stay at home mom I really related to it. You spend so much of your time with your children as your focus. Your career! Then they are gone. You hope you still know your husband. You hope you will fill your time. I still have two more to go before I have an empty nest. I hope I handle it as gracefully as Linda does in this book.

I really enjoyed the concept of the story but there could have been a bit more to it.
