Guardian Of Lies (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

Guardians of Lies is not Steve Martini's typical Paul Madriani courtroom drama/thriller, but instead, an international mix (terrorist/post-cold war/Mexican cartel/paid assassin) thriller. Despite the change in genre (which might dismay those who prefer the courtroom drama) - it was still a fast paced, hard to put down, enjoyable read which I read in a few days. Disclosure: I received this book free from the Goodreads First Reads. I like Steve Martini books, and I like the Paul Madriani series, I also like the "makes you think" plot of this book. I do believe that it is more than possible that the overall scenario in this book is plausible but the way it all played out isn't. I like Madriani in the courtroom, but having him diffuse a tactical nuclear warhead with very little fanfare was one of many things that seemed a bit far fetched. His unwavering loyalty to a client that he seems to be willing to risk his life and career for are a bit of a stretch as well. Overall it kept me interested, but sort of left me missing something at the end.

As usual, you can't figure out how Madriani will get himself out of this pickle.
