Hansons Marathon Method: A Renegade Path To Your Fastest Marathon (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

It's hard to rate this book without having followed the training plan(s). Overall, the writing is fine and the training section is informative. You can tell they were trying to fill it with more content -- the section on nutrition is bare bones, and there's a whole chapter on gear (clothing, shoes, etc.), which seemed completely unnecessary, especially since the intended audience is experienced marathoners. The 3 stars are based on the seemingly informative and easy to use charts on pacing for each type of workout. I've been using their suggested "strength" and "tempo" (race pace) workouts to train for my next marathon. Maybe I should've waited to write a review after my marathon... haha glad I read this to help me prepare for marathon #4. while a lot of it was not new to me, since I have studied the sport and have taken classes in physiology, I did learn some things. in particular I found the section on race day fueling insightful, I'm glad to see the math to calculate my specific caloric needs and I plan on figuring that out. this made me realize that my down fall is that I probably don't drink enough calories. I do use gels every 45-50 minutes but that is not nearly enough calories over 26.2, I need to opt for sports drink over water more often at other aid stations. a good read for any first time marathoner, or anyone who is looking for tips to run better!

What do You think about Hansons Marathon Method: A Renegade Path To Your Fastest Marathon (2012)?

Good to use for marathon training. Added insights for marathon runners, even if it's your first.
