First let me start out by saying this cover is absolutely beautiful. I have read a few of Jennifer Ashley's books and have yet to be disappointed. This book made me want to go back and read the entire series for the shifters.Frankly, the description for Spike is HOT! He is a werecat shifter who just got a little surprise dropped in his lap. Surprise..... your a dad! When the mother of his cub passes away he takes on the responsibility for his son. Only the woman who comes along with him is everything Spike has ever dreamed of in a mate. Now he only has to convince her of that.Myka doesn't trust easily. Her life consisted of horses, her newly deceased best friend, and her "nephew" Jordan. Determined to make sure that Jordan is safe she inserts her way into Spike's life never dreaming that he actually wants her there. As a tracker for the Austin Pack Spike is forced to make some tough decissions. Protect his cub and newly found mate at all costs or follow orders from his alpha and possible lose everything he has just found.I found Spike to be endearing. Where everyone in his pack just assumes he is basically the equivalent of a village idiot Myka sees him for who he truly is. This was a somewhat emotional read. It wasn't just the attraction to eachother that made the storyline so good. It was the love of family that came thru on every page. I like Spike. Heck, I like the Spike from Buffy too. He’s just so bad-ass most of the time and despite – or maybe because of – his previous position as the former leader’s tracker when he was portrayed as a bit of a villain, this story was much anticipated by me. And it did not disappoint. Despite being a short novel, there was plenty of depth to this tale and plenty of heat as well. I felt it didn’t quite round out Myka as much as I wanted it to, but I couldn’t put it down when I got it and rereading it again didn’t change that. 4 stars!(Two things. First, this is the best cover of the series I think. Awesome!!! I was tempted to simply give 5 stars just for this cover. Second, do NOT look up Hard Mated cover pics because you get a lot of pics you did NOT need. LOL!!)
What do You think about Hard Mated (2012)?
