He Watches Me (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

Reviewed by CrystalBook provided by Edelweiss for reviewReview originally posted at Romancing the BookAnna is a woman that hides in the shadows and doesn’t want others to notice her. When the book first started I thought she was a ghost. She is the kind of woman that I see myself as. Gabriel Blaine lives next door to the house that she is house sitting for. I don’t see it as house sitting because the way they treat her I wouldn’t treat a dog. Blaine is a man with money and he knows what he wants. He doesn’t let many get close to him. You could say that Anna and Gabriel are made for each other. This author did a wonderful job at writing a story that is hot without ever having the couple touch each other. This was a whole different experience and one that I enjoyed. Never thought you could make someone so hot and erotic with just words and actions. If I thought going and getting into the neighbors pool would come out the way it did in this book, I would do it. I am feeling so many emotions right now and I am having a hard time finding just the right words to express myself. To say this book really touched me is an understatement. I am going crazy wondering what will happen in the next book. This isn’t the first book that I have read by this author. It just seems that she just keeps getting better and better. Every time I read something by Cynthia it is usually a series and I am left going crazy for the next book. That should tell you how much this author can grab your attention. She gets you hooked and you always come back for more even when you know she will keep you in suspense waiting for the next book. I can only imagine what will happen in the next book in this trilogy. She gives you one chapter, which is just enough to get you hooked and then it’s over.If you want to read a book that has sexual undercurrents and doing something that is not the normal, then this is the book for you. There won’t be any comparisons to a certain other highly-read book, because I haven’t read it and don’t intend to. He Watches Me is well-written and entertaining, It’s refreshing that Anna has a life outside of Blaine’s presence and this isn’t a compendium of simply scene-after-voyeuristic scene. The narrative flows with highly descriptive and in some places almost poetic language. The only thing detracting the narrative for me was the first person present writing. It took a bit to get into it. There’s a delving into Anna’s psyche and why she allows herself to be manipulated by Blaine though not much information is given about why Blaine is the way he is, except for one conversation between Michael and Anna. Here’s hoping that comes in Book 2. PS: The last scene in the last chapter is an anticlimactic amusement. This novel was supplied by the author and no remuneration was involved in the writing of this review.
