I loved this book. I'm new to Carla Neggers so didn't know what to expect but I read the eBook prequel to this series and it made me want more. And Saint's Gate delivered. This is a great mystery (with a dash of romance thrown in, rather than the other way around). Neggers keeps the story moving forward by feeding you bits of information related to the mystery, just as all the various players in the book collect them, and yet leaves you mystified as to who the culprit is right up to the end. The characters are well-developed, especially Sharpe & Donovan who are the focus of the series. I enjoyed watching them meet each other in this book and look forward to seeing the relationship develop further in future installations. This wasn't a love-at-first sight steamy romance, but a believable and enjoyable story of two people, with all their similarities and differences, strengths and doubts, getting to know, respect, and like each other. I won Heron's Cove in First Reads giveaway and this book came with it. I was excited to get both books in a new series. This is also my first Carla Neggers book. The story has great premise with the mystery of stolen art but something in the story lost me. There was little suspense but many discussions and theories leading up to the big reveal. But the big reveal came out of nowhere. The romance between Emma and Colin was ok, I would have liked to have had more tension or build up between them. I would have also liked to have move background on the characters, but since this is the first in a series, it's not a showstopper since many of the backstory will probably come out in further installments. All in all, it was a good story and series with potential. I will be reading and looking forward to the next book.
What do You think about Helgonens Port (2012)?
More like 3/12. The rational side of me says 3, but I enjoyed it perhaps overmuch.

So boring. I read it almost entirely, but skimmed the last two chapters.
