Help! We Need A Title! (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

The first half of the book looks a lot like little kids drawings as the illustrations argue a bit about being watched by people. They ask for a monster and a landscape but eventually call upon the author they know to deliver a story. Herve Tullet appears as a photo portrait of himself within the illustrations of the illustrator. The book is full of doodling, creativity, finished yet unfinished. It has a board book cover but is filled with pages of imagination. This book about story characters who are taken aback when you, the reader, opens their book, is charming and invites interactive participation from the audience. The surprised characters quickly try and cobble a story together, but decided to turn to their author friend for help. The ending of this book was inconclusive, and did not offer closure for the reader. Nor did the book offer a structured plot. The illustrations, modeled after children's sketches and doodles, seemed messy and half-hearted rather than deliberate; though they did contribute to the overall telling of the story.

A wonderfully playful work of interactive metafiction.

Don't let this man near children. Or art supplies.
