I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. I had heard such great things about the book, as well as the series, and was definitely looking forward to reading it. So needless to say when given the opportunity to get the book and do the review, I jumped at the chance. I love romance and erotica, as well as all things BDSM, whether they are novellas or more lengthy reads. I am an avid reader and always have a book or two on hand. In reaching the end of this book, all I can say is whoa. I was left feeling so very disappointed in it all. The book had such potential and yet it failed. The storyline, the characters, the world...all of it was such a let down after hearing such rave reviews from so many people. This was a quick read for me and was done in one sitting in just under two hours. To me, there honestly wasn’t a storyline, and the characters as well as the world in which they lived in, in my own opinion, were not completely fleshed out. The story took place over the course of 10'ish days, and believe you me, there is no kind of dominate/submissive, master/slave relationship and training that is covered within this short time frame. It is just too preposterous and utterly unbelievable. Not only that, but I kept asking myself throughout the book, “what the hell was up with the rest of their lives” as the book only takes place during these training sessions and with absolutely no others to interact with throughout the book other than one very short moment at the end of the story. I felt this made the story un-relatable and their world just so lacking and the characters dull and boring not to mention shallow. Each of these sessions were covered in just a few pages or so, and overall nothing happened during them. Seriously, where was the heat? Where is the pulling you in and leaving you tingling and breathless as you are taken on a sexual journey behind doors that would normally be closed and sealed tight to us and our voyeuristic selves. Where is that elicit feeling you get when reading a taboo subject that is sexy and racy? There were no thrills and tremors, nor shivers and tingles as the topic raced along getting hotter and hotter, sizzling along my nerves...I felt not one iota of that. For me it was just too flat a read and one dimensional. There was no heat and it was not in any way, shape or form, compelling to a reader. I was not engaged whatsoever at any point and time. I had to force myself to continue to read the book in the hopes that the story could be salvaged for me but it just continued on in the same fashion. Not to be mean but in scrolling through the other reviews I have to wonder if we all read the same book. I mean really, how on earth did this book get so many high stars when the book wasn’t romantic nor sexy and hot, let alone not a bit erotic in the least. wow and thats an understatement! I sat here engrossed in this book from beginning to end. I truly cant get enough and I cant wait to read the rest of the books in the series. This book makes you feel all sort of emotions and you want to feel what renee is feeling and experiencing. It is an amazing journey that has begun and I will be getting the rest in the series as soon as I can. I recommend this for any that is into bdsm or is bdsm curious. It will open your mind to another world that you may have not thought of.
What do You think about Her Master's Kiss (2000)?
This series started a bit dark, but I'm glad I pushed on. It was well worth thread.
