Her Unbridled Cowboy (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

Really love this Harland County Series! Kerri Masters (chef) and Connor McCall (Cowboy) watched their parents play match makers with their siblings Jordan and Cole and now that they are getting married. Kerri and Connor agree they want no part of being set up by their parents. Kerri feels inadequate after her divorce from her cheating husband and Connor has been burned by 3 fiances. All Kerri wants to do is return to LA to restart her life after the earthquake took her home and her and Jordan's restaurant, which landed her back in Texas. The family's match making starts with Jordan and Cole's wedding and then Jordan's idea to start a restaurant in Texas. Kerri agrees to help with both even though this means she will most likely have to remain in Texas close to a year. She and Connor are very attracted to each other and after a few steamy kisses they agree to be friends with benefits. Several miss understandings and bull headed thoughts cause them to run from their true feelings of love. Kerri receives an offer to be a top chef at a very prestigious restaurant in LA and once Cole helps Connor see the error of his ways and realize Kerri is not like his 3 failed fiances. Their love finally become undeniable. I can't wait to read the next book in the Harland County series. I enjoyed Her Fated Cowboy, but this book was a disappointment. Much of the book is just the H/h repeating ad nauseum about how horny they are. We get it; do you have to be so monotonous? NO. The story crosses too many boundaries, to the point that it turned me off to any good points the story may have had. I recommend this book only to those who enjoy seeing a shy insecure girl repeatedly rejected, hurt, and humiliated--with her family aiding and abetting, no less. Unlike Jordan and Cole's story, sensitive Kerri wasn't holding her own, and Conner had no excuse, beyond a narcissistic preoccupation with himself. In the first two-thirds of this book, just how many times did Conner give any consideration to Kerri's needs and feelings (hint: none)? The author kept saying he was sweet and charming while writing behavior that showed him as anything but. The parents and sister showed an unbelievable degree of depraved indifference to the hurt and humiliation they manipulated Kerri into enduring. When any sane parent would be doing their best to protect their daughter from a callous lout, Kerri's were conspiring to put her in one social situation after another where she had to suffer in silence, politely interacting with her rejector while shriveling with pain inside. Seriously, if someone called your sister a tramp, drunk, and fool would you giggle about it because it shows how much he loves her? If your daughter came home pawed over and bruised after her date had deserted her without purse, cellphone, money, or ride home, would you conspire to throw them back together? The sickos in this story are just not human, too painful for my taste.
