Here Comes Destructosaurus! (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
Oh no! Destructosaurus is stomping through the town in a Godzilla-like frenzy. Is nothing safe? Big, bold digital illustrations are rendered with thick black outlines and bold colors. These are juxtaposed with admonishing text, written in a motherly style, encouraging Destructosaurus toward better behavior, and admonishing him for mistakes. Since the book starts with a picture of a mother and small child looking out the window at Destructosaurus the metaphor is clear. Destructosaurus is a toddler. Having found what he wanted he heads back to the sea, leaving a mess behind. Wait, here comes King Cluck, a giant chicken. Is he here to help? No such luck. Preschoolers will go nuts with this book, recognizing themselves in the idea. The pictures are big enough for sharing, so this would be a dandy addition to preschool story times. Great illustrations that were created digitally ~ super bright and bold. Text is also bold. Destructosaurus is exactly what his name describes him as, a dinosaur that is large and destructive, whether he means to be or not! He is continually being reminded to mind his manners, as he destroys NYC buildings, drips dead fish and seaweed on people, and makes messes of all sorts. Ridiculous but humorous. And kids relate to the reminders to watch their behavior and attitude.
