A little too much sex in this one for me, but I'll just skim through some of it and throw it into the Erotic category. Excellent story, though. I loved how they didn't have perfect sexual situations... where emotions or other things lead to interruptions or misunderstandings. More realistic that way. That scene in front of the fireplace was really sexy. All the characters were unique and it was great to see Rhodes and Wash make an appearance. I just love all the different personalities in this book! It's rare to find an author who successfully pulls that off without all of them blending together towards the end :-) Hide Out by Katie Allen is the story of Trevor, the bouncer friend of Rhodes & Wash from Private Dicks. Trevor has been running from the law and his father for a few years and finally agrees to testify against his rich and murderous father. Peter is a hardworking and decent cop who is assigned to protecting the spoilt Trevor for the next seven months until the trial begins.Peter decides to take him to a little town called….Honeysuckle…I kid you not!!!! So Peter has a home there…well if you can call an abandoned house with no furniture no nothing…and it will be a place where no one can find Trevor. The plan is to pretend they are lovers…hello there…..why is this scenario used so much in the m/m genre???? I can’t remember the number of books with this kind of plot..but I have to say that it is quite a large number!!!!!! You see, I knew what would happen next…and was I right!!!The two hate each other and try to cover up being gay with each other…..no really!!!!! Am I to believe that they can hide it whilst feeling hot and sweaty for each other??? And he is gay or not??? He’s so hot Back to Honeysuckle….what…this is no little boring town….it’s like a Wisteria Lane of…oh god I can’t remember which state the town is in…but anyway…the characters who lived around the two guys are just OTT….there’s the peeping tom, the handsome, married man that is murdered just after he’s seduced a married man, the waitresses….who just love gay men and are so happy that the guys are staying around….and the secretive Goth stalker…there’s a really funny moment when Peter & Trevor discuss the guy…GOTH??? ROTH??? Wash & Rhodes unexpected visit throws Peter into a jealous fit. I was really irritated by all this sweetness ….and innuendos…and all those sex scenes….yes finally a airbed is purchased, some chairs, a table…and voila…the four guys go all alpha and do up the house together. Nails, hammers and all. I found myself skipping some of the sex scenes which became very boring and repetitive. So Trevor and Peter get their HEA…naturally!!!! Together with Wash & Rhodie they solve the murder, get the Goth’s father to come to terms with his son being gay….and lastly give the teenager some tips on dealing with coming out and admitting his sexuality. I found this part a bit unrealistic, like being given a sermon on how to deal with coming out. It felt forced to me.Now, before anyone thinks I hated this book….no I didn’t love it but I certainly liked it more than Private Dicks (geez I hated that title!!) the previous book in this series, The two characters were more engaging and likeable…though the way Peter turned from this alpha male cop to a stuttering twit really got to me. I enjoyed the whole mystery and murder storyline even though I thought some of the things a bit incredulous…in fact I may have liked the all those crazy Honeysuckle residents….what Honeysuckle Lane!!!!!!
What do You think about Hide Out (2010)?
I really enjoyed this book - I'm hoping I see more books with these both of these two fun couples.
