I wish I'd known before ordering this book that it was going to be so preachy. God spoke to him by sending a butterfly on his walking path? God told him directly that he'd made a beautiful view just for him? Prepare yourself to hear the gospel at the end of the book, so you may accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Hey, hike your own hike, as they say on the trail. Write the book you feel you need to write. This just wasn't for me. I've read several books by people who have hiked the AT and this is the first one I've run into that speaks to the spiritual journey as well as the physical one. I found the Apostle's book fascinating for that reason. I can't help but think that anyone walking the trail would be transformed in a spiritual way, but so many of the books speak only to the physical aspect. This author also spends some time describing the natural wonders and beauty found along the trail--something other books about the AT have been surprisingly lacking in.
Very good, follows one man's hike through the Appalachian Trail.
