Hold Me Closer: A Rebel Walking Novel - Plot & Excerpts

"You're really here." "In the flesh." "I don't know what to say." "Don't say anything.  Hug it out."  Hug it out.  That's what he always said to me growing up.  Anytime I was having a horrible day, that would bring me out of it.  Well, that and a huge hug from him that sometimes felt like it could stop my breathing at any moment.
There's nothing left to do but wrap my arms around the man that I thought I had lost forever.  The man who has always been there for me.  The man I said goodbye to and cried over the loss of.  He wraps me in one of those tight hugs, and I not only let my tears fall, but my cries are heard.  There is no holding back the emotions of getting him back.  I cry and cry and he holds me the entire time.  When I regain my composure, I pull away from him and smack him across the chest.  "How dare you not tell me you were alive?"  I turn and walk back into the house, closing the door behind me.  I hear the sound of a door opening and the roar of an engine.  My gut tells me what just happened.  He left.  He's done.  I let him leave and it's the first time I didn't have to fight for a guy to leave my house.
