Hold Me Down Hard (Entangled Brazen) (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

When I first requested this book for review, I wasn’t expecting it to be so short. But it’s a short story and with short stories, they either leave you wanting more or you’re happy with it. With this book, I was happy with it. It was a cute story about two neighbors who are good friends that come to love the hell out of each other but don’t know how to broach the topic since they’re both been firmly, friend-zoned.Eden is an actress from Iowa who has the hots for her best friend/next door neighbor, Jay. Jay is a cop and he’s trying his damndest to keep things platonic between him and Eden because his world is filled with danger and he doesn’t want to subject Eden to all of that. At the same time, he won’t give up his dangerous job or world because of reasons that are his own. But damn does he want Eden.Their coming together story was too cute for words. Eden wants to be more than friends with Jay and with the help of her friends, she finds out a way to make that dream, a reality and the way she went about it was cute and funny. Jay was a total stud and I ate him up.This was a great, quick read for those times when you don’t have the time or energy to invest in a drawn out drama of a book. It was enjoyable. I will definitely be checking out more from this author in the future. Eden Carver is a New York actress that hails from a small town in Iowa. She's not nearly as innocent as one would think and has secret desires that have turned away several men in her life. Eden's biggest performance is about to get underway and her neighbor is going to have a starring role.Jay Bennett is a law enforcement officer and just happens to be Eden's neighbor. They are best friends and spend a lot time together. Not wanting to expand outside the friend zone, Jay refuses to give in to the urges that he feels every time he's around Eden. Besides, she's a small town girl and he doesn't want to prey upon his naive neighbor.Hold Me Down Hard is a pretty short novella that pairs a seemingly naive country girl, who winds up in New York, with a hot and sexy police officer. They happen to be neighbors and best friends. She wants more; he doesn't want to contaminate her pure little mind. What we end up with is an interesting plot written by Eden and acted out by both Eden and Jay. Jay always helps Eden rehearse lines for upcoming casting calls or acting jobs but what he doesn't discover, until later, is that her latest script is fake - written by Eden and used to seduce Jay. She wants to let him know she's interested and that she's not the wholesome and pure small town girl that he assumes she is.The overall chemistry between Eden and Jay is there, and it's strong and undeniable. I loved the plan Eden devised to express her feelings to Jay (I just wish it would have been executed a bit better). I totally understand why she's gun shy to inform him of her fetishes since the other guys she told completely bailed on her. This made her feel more comfortable addressing the topic with Jay.Jay was trying to be the respectable man and not make a play for Eden, even though his attraction to her unmistakable. His reasons behind not wanting to commit to Eden have less to do with him not wanting to corrupt her, and more to do with a dark past he has kept hidden. He's unable to find a way to merge the past with a future and still remain faithful to both. Eden may just be the one to help him.Now to the not so great part of the review:This had the potential to be something completely different from other steamy novellas, but I thought it fell a little short. Some of the lines and scenes were unimpressive and didn't really spark a huge amount of interest. The eventual sex scene was mediocre at best and wasn't all that steamy. It didn't inspire me to grab my man to take care of any need that had built up. Review Copy Courtesy of Publisher, at no cost, in exchange for an honest review.
